USA & Canada – Required Adapter / Explanation

What you need:
A QCC1 / Type 1 adapter (ACME male thread → German small cylinder connection W21.8 x 1/14 LH).

Unlike Switzerland, there is only one unified standard in this region. Both the USA and Canada use the North American QCC1 / Type 1 standard. Typical refillable gas cylinders (e.g. 20 lb “BBQ tanks” from Walmart, Home Depot, or Canadian Tire) are equipped with this connection.

In some cases, larger cylinders also have an additional POL internal thread underneath the QCC1 connection. In these situations, POL → W21.8 adapter variants are also required.

Important note:
The German 50 mbar pressure regulator remains part of the system. The adapter is used solely to create a secure mechanical connection between the gas cylinder and the regulator — it does not regulate pressure.

Practical advantage (USA/Canada):
Compared to other countries, the system is significantly simpler:

• no complex sealing or standard confusion
• no adapter bans like in Australia
• one adapter is sufficient in most cases for both countries

For small disposable gas cartridges (e.g. Coleman 1 lb cylinders), a separate 1"-20 adapter is required.
